Just to add on to my last post..I actually just turned 40 a couple of days ago on Tuesday the 17th..I went away to Brisbane for 5 days n came back yesterday....straight from the airport instead of going home I went to the pokies..I gambled nearly $1200 but luckily I came away with a $2900 cheque...I thought sweet..I’m covered got a few thousand dollars in the bank no worries...I woke up this morning n was supposed to go the post office but instead I got that urge n went to the pokies which opened at 8am..thinking hmm another $3000 cheque would be nice n really handy..by 11am I had lost over $3000..I play only the $1 machines n always bet max so it’s never a long time with me unless I get lucky....I had planned a bbq n drinks get together with some of my close friends for my birthday this Sat the 22nd of Feb...I told them 2 weeks ago to be available but now I have to ring my mates n give them some bullcrap excuse why Ive had to cancel my bbq/birthday get together because I now don’t have the money....I’m sure most of you like me have become experts at lying n making excuses on why you can’t be somewhere because of spending all your money on these damn machines. I’m glad I found this forum though..hopefully we can all get better..do better n be better....Cheers

Reading through all these posts being a gambler myself all comes down to one thing.... none of us gamble for money. We gamble to fill in time or to esacpe from something or because we are bored.
The amount of times i won over 10k and i kept going i couldnt count on my hands and toes. If it was about the money i would of pulled out.
I think the psychology of gambling is to give you something to fill the void in your life and at the same time take all your money. Its like a psychologist that takes your weeks pay.

Im on day 4 today i have checked the market for tomorrows rugby games already. But im not going to bet. I dont even know why i checked for because im not allowing myself to be so stupid. The last thing i want is another sunday come and im 2000 dollars down hating myself. Not happening.

I find venting on here actually helpful so i will keep a log and be truthful if i slip up and what not.
    Thanks for reading

Hi. I’m new to the forum and only just signed up after loosing $1500 in an online casino. I’m a 39 year old male. Have been gambling online for about 10 years. Started with very small bets in online poker rooms. Later I played roulette and black jack in online casinos before getting hooked to the online pokies. I must have lost about $50000 but don‘t really know. I‘m loosing control while playing although acting quite rational after. I‘m not in debt (yet) but feel very ashamed of all the money I lost by gambling. No one knows about my addiction. I don‘t dare to open up to my girlfriend as I‘m afraid she might leave me. I don‘t know why I gamble. I don‘t feel the urge all the time but often on Friday‘s after the work week finished or when I feel bored. I was also wondering if the bank can block my account for those foreign transactions (Malta, Cyprus etc). Maybe someone in the forum has experience with that? I self-exclude myself each time from the online casinos but it‘s just too easy to find new ones. I must have used about 50 different ones over the years. Sorry for the long intro. Feels good to write about it. I also used the chat counsellor which is a good feature. Alright 26/02/20 11:49 [4h gambling free] Good Night...

    Hi

    Welcome to forum.

You can actually block gambling sites from your device . I'm not overly familiar with the process. I'm sure the bank can block the forergn currency but again something l'm not familiar with. If you hang in here I'm sure some-one will pop on to advice.

As for "Why we gamble?" I guess we all ask ourselves that. Gambling is an ancient tradition! Gambling sites and Pokies (my vice) are programmed to psychologically manipulate us, especially vulnerable people.

You said that Friday night boredom enticed you to gamble. Change is really important in helping us recover / rediscover ourselves. Perhaps you could take your girlfriend out to dinner or the movies. Or simply learn to relax and cuddle up on Fridays after a hard weeks work?

All the best on your journey into gamble free living!

Hello I'm new here obviously and finally started to take the first steps towards getting this gambling problem fixed.

I am 34yrs old, have always liked to gamble since I was in high school. Probably 10yrs ago my gambling addiction escalated whilst playing pokies and I somehow snapped myself out of the addiction around 2014.

Up until late last year I didn't have any urge to gamble much at all and if I did wasn't anything problematic. But I have since been obsessed pretty much with online pokies 🎰
Without fail I have gambled away any savings, income and even resorted to buying online gift cards via zip pay etc just to play.

Even tho I'm losing money 90 % of the time, I still really feel an addiction and enjoy playing it. So my main issue is going to be to actually want to quit playing them.
