The phrase “self-care” gets thrown around a lot, especially during recovery, but that’s because it really is a cornerstone of not only recovery but life in general! Spending just a few minutes a day being kind to yourself can make a world of difference. Self-care can look different for everyone. For some people it’s going for a run, for others it’s a chat with a friend, getting some tidying done around the house or practising mindfulness. Any small thing that gives you some time to take a breather, and look after yourself is important.
The importance of self-care has been well documented. A study of students in the US found that those who engaged in self care had a higher quality of life and reduced stress levels, and that the more varied the types of self-care were, the better the outcomes.
Every second Saturday we can come together and share any self-care you have practised this week, or some that you want to practice soon! Even if it was something small like filing your nails or practising a couple of minutes of mindfulness, anything is better than nothing! You might even want to try out the self-care practices that another community member shares.
So what does self-care look like for you?

Re: Share your self care!
To start off this new Saturday activity I'll share some of the self-care I practised this week
- I managed to fit in four runs this week which was nice. I find when I get stressed heading out for a run really helps, not only are the endorphins great but I love being able to have a look around my neighbourhood at the lovely gardens, especially during the spring!
- I made sure to speak with friends, while Vic is now out of lock down, I still prioritise catching up with friends to check -in and see how everyone's travelling!
So what has everyone else been doing to look after themselves, or what are you planning on doing?

Re: Share your self care!
Hi @Printemps,
This is such a great topic, thank you for bringing it up.
-Batch cooking: I also cook my meals for the week in advance as part of my self-care routine. It just saves so much time, helps me eat healthier and its also good money wise.
-Dance and sing: Another things I do as self-care is dance and sing by myself in my home when no one is watching. The good old 'let your hair down' moment.
-Catch-up with a friend once a week: Lockdown or not, I try to catch-up each weekend with at least one different friend from back home. It's really nice to see that some of my best friendships have only gotten stronger despite the physical distance. I also feel so buoyed up afterwards. 8-)
Would love to hear what are others self-care practices? @JinxyWolf @pamela @Mona58 @Menz199 @loraineie69 @melbakp69 @frankieyu2 @Squeaky

Re: Share your self care!
okay everyone, it's that time in the weekend to share our selfcare!
I've been getting back on top of my reading at the moment! It's something that really feel off my radar this year, so I'm happy to be back into it!
How has everyone else been looking after themselves?

Hi @Printemps , work and running have my focus at the moment, have had the best year in my working life as far as gambling spend has gone, cannot get complacent though, get comfortable and the beast will bite, one day at a time

Re: Share your self care!
hello everyone! It's time again to share ourself care!
The past month has been pretty big and there have been a lot of changes, so I've been extra careful to make sure I'm giving myself proper time off to decompress!
This week I've been nice to myself by making sure I cook nice dinners and have some fun snacks at home. It's a small thing but it's always nice to have something tasty to look forward to!
How about everyone else? What nice little things have you been doing for yourself lately?
@Melpaul8379 , @Thanhtuan78 @daisy2 @Adam Farith , @Jmild2 and @daisy2

Re: Share your self care!
Hey hey everyone! It's that time o the week again to come together and share our self care!
Self care can often be an overused word, but throughout this journey it is important to have ways of checking in with yourself and being kind to you!
This week my self care is a bit broad, I need to start getting better at setting boundaries with people and not placing other people's worry above my own. Having boundaries is so so important for anyone, whether it be with friends, partners, family or colleagues it allows us to ensure that our relationships our balanced and even and we are not constantly at a heightened emotional state.
SO what is everyone else doing for themselves right now?

Re: Share your self care!
@Printemps i have just been finished up on a 6month work contract after only 3 months. So instead of diving straight back into work, I am going to take a month or so to get my health and wellness on track, as well as continue to kick this addiction. I want to be fitter and more energetic and put some regular exercise habits in place. I am also using the money I have saved by not playing the pokies on regular massages, and am going to book an overseas trip to visit 2 of my children!

Re: Share your self care!
hello everyone!
For this weekend's activity it's time to share our self care!
The start of this year has been a rough one for me with illness so my self-care has been making sure I listen to my body and get the actual rest I need. It sounds simple enough but I am someone who will just keep going until I collapse and have realised that that approach doesn't help at all and ends up leaving me worse off!
