I am at Day 49. Instead of gambling, I spend my weekends gardening, cooking, reading, needlework, making hand made cards, walking the dog and cleaning up my house. Much cheaper and better for my mind.

Hi Cherylyn,
It sounds like you are going through a particularly tough time at the moment! I'm so glad that you've joined this community and that you are keeping us posted on how you're travelling. Getting a cat sounds like a lovely idea!! What else helps you to manage when you are feeling depressed?

I'm wondering if you have other people that support you around the depression and the gambling? Please feel free to call Gamblers helpline on 1800 858 858 for an anonymous chat to offer you support and give you some other options/strategies if you are interested.

Take care and keep in touch!!

Hallo Everyone. I will be taking trips on my new gopher - I am 82. I have also planted some of my favourite tomatoes - Ox Heart. These grow huge and are dark plum red with a beautiful flavour I tried to grow them when I was near Adelaide but no good Here I should have no problem.
I was blessed to get this lovely unit in the prettiest part of Australia - The Barossa Valley The whole little country towns are pied with roses it is a picture. I have lots in my front and back gardens and found room for the tomatoes.
Last week I registered for a Medical Centre. While I was waiting for a taxi on the corner of the High Street I heard this chirping near my feet. I looked down and found a young beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet in distress. I managed to pick it up and a lady in the shop saw and came out with a box. I brought it home and put it in my small aviary empty since I lost my last budgie. He was old sitting on the floor and when I pushed it past my fence the door was loose he got out and I saw him happily playing with the finches in the tree opposite. I'm happy knowing he was free for his last weeks but really missed him
Now I have this beautiful bird which is a much different kettle of fish. He realty gets close comes up to talk He eats all the time! and is so funny.... especially when he throws himself in the bath of water - these love the water. I juset went out because he was making a terrible noise. I found he had removed all the kitchen paper from his 'nest' I made for him - with a vomit bag!...he had all the paper laid out flat on the floor of his cage likr carpet and now he's eating and playing with it.
I will join the Bird Society, buy a bigger aviary that's not too much money!... and a mate for him when available. They need company all the time. He squarks at me to come out when he gets lonely and gets right up close to me.
I have also planted baby spinach for both of us and some phlox flowers because they are my favourite and the nectar is lovely (I used to suck it as a child) he will love the he feeds on blossoms etc.
So that's a start for my replacements... I have just braved my first trip out on my gopher thanks to you all! I went all around the units up and down the road. Eventually I will go to the village shops. and then......................straight back! :p

Hi again Malvina,

That was lovely to read, good on you for taking a ride on your gopher, enjoy your new friend and I'm sure you will get so much pleasure in the days to come . Lucky you being in the Barossa valley , so much you could do. There must be a community centre where you could ride your gopher to and connect with others ?

Have a lovely day & take care

Hi Malvina,

what a vivid picture you have created, and how lovely to be in the depths of nature like that. When we are gambling, it's much harder to appreciate the beautiful things around us, the simple things in life that can give so much pleasure. What I heard in your post is you being present to the moment, the exact opposite of what happens with gambling when we 'lose ourselves.'

Great practice!

Charlotte :)

Hallo All, Because of my new birdie pet I have joined the Bird Club of Barossa and started socialising - first time for years since the pokies took over. I am having to count my pennies now it costs money to socialise especially as I'm a Giver when raffles donations etc come round - I'm always there
One good little blessing... When I was doing a count up to make sure I have enough till payday - I found a bunch of $1 coins at the bottom of my bag - from my old pokie days! Came in handy = all $26 of it....
Have a lovely Weekend and God Bless All
