Was doing so well

Postby redman47 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 7:15 am

Several weeks ago I realised I was gambling too much, was gambling with money I didn't even have. I decided it was time to stop, to save money and have a better future. I was doing so well until last night when I lost a lot. I couldn't help it. Not exactly sure what i'm looking for by posting this but felt the need to get it out my chest.

Hi redman47,
Have you called the Helpline? They are useful when you have the urge to play and can help you through the urge. Also the counselling can help and the 100 day challenge- it takes that long to re-program your brain to not gamble. It's really hard doing it on your own, but sounds like you have made a good effort and will get back on track

I haven't called the helpline yet. I will give it ago next time. I had a look at the 100 day challenge and am going to try and do that.

Hi Redman

Read posts of other gamblers ... be prepared for the physical and mental impact.

Do NOT give in to temptation. Remind yourself what will happen if you do.

Stay Strong.

There's an ad on TV about smoking addiction - the tagline is "every time you quit you get a little better at it"

You did so well to get to where you got to, now it's time to start over and learn from it.

It's always when you think you are on top that a little flutter to reward yourself seems like a good idea. That's when you need to be strongest. It happened to me a few days ago and I left the venue just in time.

Stay Strong and start again!
