Sports betting embedded in Australian sporting culture
Funded by the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, this study by Dr Ross Gordon of Macquarie University and Michael Chapman of the University of Wollongong investigated the marketing mechanisms sports betting agencies use to appeal to young adults who gamble on sport.

With both 'footy' seasons revving up shortly, this is a timely piece of research. It particularly focuses on young men aged 18-25 years, as a primary target group of sports-betting companies.

What do you think? Has betting become embedded within our sporting culture? Interested to hear what our young male forum members think too :)

Yes I think it is, with all the annoying betting ads spam shown during matches, it's hard to escape the lingering aspect about putting a bet on, watching footy is a family event and families should not be subjected to being harassed by betting crap, especially young children.
It will make young children think that betting is a normal aspect of sport

Where I cringe is that gamblers can now bet on supercoach points.

Supercoach and other such games should be a free, fun and competitive way for people to compete across a sports season. But now bookmakers are giving you the opportunity to bet on supercoach points a player can make it a game. It is hard not to feel afraid. I won't be tempted in this instance, but I fear others will.
