Are these traits of the addiction?

    Sun Dec 20, 2020 12:59 pm

    Hey guys,

I am wondering if anyone has experienced these traits/habits in a gambling addict before and if you could possibly give me any insight into them. My partner has admitted his chronic long term gambling addiction just recently but the below have been traits of his for as long as I can remember.

    - He works extremely hard and long hours

    - He wakes up super early in the morning (3/4am).

    - He always stays busy, never relaxes

    - No value for money. Always buying expensive things

    - His friends are all into doing dumb ****

    - He is always calm and happy. His mood never really changes.

    Many thanks,

Hi, from my perspective I think everyone is different and those traits could be from a variety of things? I can't overly relate to many of them.

I think its very complicated to work out, and there aren't many straight forward answers.. he might buy expensive gifts because that is who he is, maybe part of it is gambling related, maybe it isn't. It would be different for everyone. I do understand that some people who do that are doing it out of guilt or cover up.

I am the calm and happy non mood changing type, but that's always been like me - not from gambling.

I'd say theyre mostly individual traits. Personally I'm not into material things, but after a loss I'd go out and buy something to console me ie make me feel like I wasn't wasting all my money...but that's just me.

    Hi @Yelyah

I would have to echo similar sentiments to @JB-nsw @pamela @Damaged_Armour

They really could be individual traits, or they could be seen as a byproduct of someone who is gambling. My other thought is that all those listed traits could describe someone who has a lack of insight to their of emotions, which could lead to problematic behaviours.

Traits of addiction. A few hours after you play the pokees, you see reels rolling in your head
