Hey mate, just reading your posts now. Good on you for coming here, and happy to inspire you! Honestly, abstinence is the best way forward. 'One bet is too much and a thousand bets are not enough' - that's a slogan from Gambler's Anonymous. Last year I went over 200 days, and I eventually caved. That one bet made me spiral out of control. It is literally no different to an alcoholic taking the first sip, or a drug addict taking the first hit...

This was my first thread from last year (I'm not sure if this is the one that inspired you or the one I have now)

This one below was my very first serious attempt at quitting gambling. It was when I was at the very lows of my gambling addiction - its a lot more personal than my current thread. I'd like to think that I've grown since then...I don't need to be on as much here (which sometimes I feel guilty of because I had a lot of support in that thread and I don't reciprocate that support)

Stay strong. You got this. Life is a lot better being gambling free. I'm not always making excuses as to why I don't have money, I don't have to forego nights out with friends...and I can just enjoy things now. Life does get better. :)

Unfortunately after my post on Wednesday night, I had a slip up on Day 10...

Albiet a small one $15... But You're right @Jc it only takes one bet...

10 days is a PB so far... But I am determined to really keep strong from now on, I felt gutted after I placed the bet

I am back on Day 4.. I got through the weekend without a bet and I am really proud of myself.

    No cracking this time...

    My triggers last wednesday were:

    -alcohol

    -stressful day at work

-shame/guilt (knowing that I had to borrow money off Mum to pay for petrol/food before the end of the month)

    - having access to a TAB Touch account that I forgot I had (have now self excluded)

I agree that you should be proud of yourself, to have stopped yourself at $15 and taking the extra steps of that final self exclusion is really awesome and shows a lot of strength - as does reaching the PB!
Looking forward to hearing how this week goes for you :)

Hi @spentitallagain , I admire you are back to this diary and shared your relapse and thoughtful analysis of what triggered it. Great you went through the gambling free weekend - already showing you are resilient and are on the track. Looking forward to hearing from you again soon.

Cheers guys for all the encouragement, I really appreciate it, got through Day 6 today.

Going really well at the minute, got paid yesterday, last night I fought the urge to go and gamble but I refrained... It gives me strength that I was able to resist the urge!!

Today is day 12, had a huge close call last night... After a day of drinking yesterday for my sister's bday a friend invited me to the casino.. I was in the Uber on the way there... Adrenaline was pumping/excitement. Thank God he said he was leaving when I was halfway there, a part of me still wanted to go... But I am so so glad that I swung the Uber back around rewarded myself with some McDonald's and came home to bed !!! Phewww... I am so happy that I had the will power to restrain myself.. one day at a time.

Wow @spentitallagain, you could have quite easily still went so you should be really proud of the willpower you used!

Its a good reminder that it gets a little bit easier each day, and that you keep learning more about what you can handle and your triggers. Keep pushing ahead and I look forward to hearing more from you
