    Messaging function update!

    Thu Jul 25, 2019 11:44 am

    Hello all,

An important update for you all about an upcoming change! ...

We’re passionate about ensuring our community is a safe and welcoming environment for people with gambling-related concerns to connect and support one another.
This is really important to us, and we are consistently reviewing our processes.

With this in mind, we are preparing to turn off the private message function between members.
While our facilitators prefer to take a backseat and let the beauty of peer support play out, we believe what makes our community unique is that there are gambling clinicians on hand to support our members if necessary. Unfortunately, we’re unable to do this when communication is taken into the private space.

As many of you yourselves have said many times… just reading about other people’s experiences can be so valuable, particularly when they’re struggling with the same thing you are. There’s no shame here, this is a community of people in it together! You never know who your post might help, and when.

We try not to make changes too often. We’ve evaluated things, and know this will only affect a small group of our community.

As of August 7 private messaging will only be available between members and myself as Community Mgr, and a specific account called @TheTeam. This is where we’ll be able to reach out to one another about concerns. I'll make sure to reply here when this change happens, including how you can get in private contact with us when required.

I’m happy to chat about this if anyone would like to! Reply below or send me a private message directly.

Thanks for understanding, hope you all feel as positive about this safety improvement as we do :)

    Hi all,

Just want to highlight that this switch is a real priority for us at the moment.
Overnight, unfortunately, there were some accounts messaged with some gambling-related content. Our apologies to any accounts impacted. This member has since been removed and messages retrieved. As mentioned above, the safety of this community is our number one priority!

Thank you to those members of the community who assisted us in keeping this space safe by notifying us of the issue.
To let you know if it is an issue in the small window until we transition away from the function... the easiest way to report messages and make them visible to moderators for fastest response is by hovering your mouse in the top right of the message, and pressing the ! (exclamation mark). Hopefully this isn't necessary though!

Thank you very much all, take care.

This change has now been implemented. Private message has now been turned off.

If you need to get in touch behind the scenes for forum-related support, questions or feedback you can reach us by sending a private message to @TheTeam or myself, but please note that these inboxes are only monitored periodically. Otherwise, the risk of others being able to message you has been removed.

This information is also available here.
