    Taking up the challenge

    Sat Jun 29, 2019 6:13 pm

    Day 1
Signed up in this forum 😋

Rang the gambling help line and made arrangements to speak to a counseller and financial advisor. (Highly uncomfortable when doing this, but I know it will keep me on the right track. And pushing myself out of my comfort zone may be exactly what I need.)

Contacted my financial institution to help make arrangements to get me back on track.

Signed on for the 100 day challenge! Wish me luck! 🙈

    Day 2

Deleted all casino games apps and betting app on my phone. Although most of it was just play money, it increases the temptation go and play games with real money.

It’s only the second day, so it’s been pretty easy. Just relaxing at home.

As most people have said, the real test will come on pay day, which is still over a week away for me.

Got through my first week quite easily. It helped that I’ve been so busy at work, i’ve been working overtime throughout the week and too tired to go anywhere 😂

    Day 12
Had my first counselling session this week. It felt a bit awkward, but Counseller seemed optimistic 😅. Was told to think about my triggers for gambling, and of course, that made me think about gambling 😂🙈

It’s also pay week, and I have to say, the temptation to go out and play is very high. But making sure to pay all stuff that needs paying first!

Hopefully, I can get over this first hurdle and resist the temptation 🤑

    Hi @LilNoob

Well done for getting to this point! and also seeing your counsellor!
Its a huge achievement getting through the first week, you may be stronger than you feel!
Yes those temptations may be high, but you are in control of those urges. You can put barriers and strategies in place to stop you from gambling.
    You got this!

    Ugh. Didn’t even last a month. 🙈😭
Got a big payday. Went out with friends and ended up in casino 😱
Think I may have to do a self ban. Was hoping to get through it by my own power 😢

    ...back to Day 1 🤯🤬

    Hi @LilNoob

Take this lapse as a learning opportunity. Are you able to identify what triggered you on that night out? Was it having the money or being out with friends? This is a chance for you to put things in place to ensure you don't get in that situation again (e.g. don't take money out with you next time).
Self exclusion is a good barrier, you can apply through the casino online or call the Helpline for more information.
Remember this is only a lapse, not a full relapse. The difference is that you have started Day 1 again, you are trying to get back on track and not give in completely.
    You got this!
