    Day one again

    Sat Mar 09, 2019 1:18 pm

11 years addicted to these machines and it’s not changed. I got married last week and I don’t want my marriage to be consumed by machines.
I’m looking for someone to talk to help while I’m trying to stop. Maybe someone to txt or something. Anyone on the Gold Coast up for a chat?

    Hello @sml0490,

I'm Calvin, one of the facilitators here on GH Online.

Congratulations on your wedding, this should be an exciting time for you, and gambling has caused some unpleasant feelings etc.

If you would like to speak with a counsellor, you're more than welcome to get in touch by webchat or our helpline on 1800 858 858.
Theres always some support out there, as well as on this forum.

In the meantime, try to acknowledge what your urges/motivations are to gamble and overtime trying to manage them.

    Hey there,

Good you have come here, lots of support on here.

Yes you def dont want those pokies to over shadow what's meant to be an exciting time in your life, and you def dont want it to break your marriage down.

They ruin everything, and it's easier said than done to say just give up.

Does you other half know about your issues or extent?

Yes she knows about the issues as she plays them to but has no problem staying away from them. She works at a venue also which makes things tricky

    Hi @sml0490 ,
Well done, try to stay strong. It is the hardest in the first days/weeks, overcoming strong urges.
Try to keep yourself busy with other activities during those times when you would normally turn to gambling.
I picked up a book and ended up reading for 9 months straight... I've since taken up new hobbies and have plenty of time for family

Limit access to cash where possible and just try to keep unnecessary temptation at bay.

    Keep going your doing great.
    Cheers, Lee

Thanks for your kind and helpful words! Today is day 7 and yesterday I was near them and didn’t touch them. I kind of felt a disgust feeling toward them

    Feeling positive 😃
