I am watching the series Addicted on SBS, and it made me realise how lucky I am to have a group of people that not only support me,but listen to me.
When I stopped gambling it was the best thing I ever did,and I told my family and a few close friends, but they dont know everything.
The people I met through G Link and my drama group, have given me the confidence to share my story and emotions with safety ,no judgement, and honesty.
Five years gamble free but I still have emotional scars ,but it helps so much being able to share my feelings.
For everyone who is struggling, don't give up,being gamble free is the best life you can ask for

Congratulations on your achievement Pamela, I remember your first post here 5 years ago some months after mine. It’s fantastic, I never kept tabs on your story. I read a lot of stories early on though. I can’t help but be jealous and envious of your progress, you are a true survivor and one day I want to be one also.

Hi Andy, thankyou for your kind words.
I have grown so much in those five years and feel free..
As you can see I still come her often to give support and to be reminded of what was,and how I dont want to go down that path again.
Sorry if you are struggling, but don't give in or up.
Be the winner by saying no to gambling..

I'm just wondering ,for those of you still struggling.
With Xmas and New Year looming up,I hope you can put some strategies in place in case you have an urge you cant control.
It can be a tough time of the year for many of us,and as much we think gambling helps,it really doesnt.
Try everything to abstain, and enjoy some time with friends and family, even during these hard times

Yes @pamela This time of year can definitely be tough time for lots of people.
The temptations sure do rise and its important to develop more stricter strategies.
What strategies have worked for you that may help others through the festive season?

Hi Calvin..I guess the best strategy I used was remembering how I felt when I lost all my money.
I didn't go anywhere with my card so I was not tempted to stop and gamble.
I chose different routes so I didn't drive past my favourite venues.

I have had lots of time lately to reflect on what in life,is important, and how we can change how we react to situations.
My life has been turned upside down recently and the life I knew is about to change.
I have taken on the role of carer to my partner..a role I take on willingly
But ,I think how a few years ago, news like this would have sent me running to the pokies so I could lose myself to senseless anonymity.
Now I have the mindset to know that would not achieve anything but more heartache.
Life deals us lemons,so let's make lemonade ,
Never give up the good fight..life is too precious
