Finally admitted I have a problem.

St Patrick’s day 2023 will hopefully be the last day that I gamble ever. I have always enjoyed a punt but since christmas I started gambling in online casinos and slowly lost more and more, running up creditor coats and short term loan debt in the process. The worst part was I was hiding my gambling from my wife and was gambling most nights if I had cash available. So yesterday I made the decision to admit what I was doing to my wife and did a forensic dive into all the money I owed and have to say it made me sick to my stomach. I realised that I do in fact have a gambling problem and that chasing my losses thinking this time will be the time I win big was a hugely flawed plan and it was time to stop. I am now about 36 hours gamble free and hope to continue staying this way for the rest of my life. I know it’s not going to be easy but I need to make the change for the sack of myself and my family.

    Hi @Frank_The_Tank,
Thank you for sharing this with us. Admitting and facing the problem isn't easy, and it takes a lot of courage to say it out, especially to those you care about. But you did it! That's the first and a very important step towards recovery.
You mentioned it is mostly online gambling that you do. There are some gambling block software that blocks the device from accessing gambling apps or websites. Gamban and GamBlock are two of them.
I'm also wondering if you are looking for some extra support such as therapeutic counselling or financial counselling? Let us know if you are interested in these and we can give you more information about that.

Thanks so much for you reply I really appreciate it. At this stage I am good for financial counselling. I am going to attend a GA meeting in my area on Wednesday and go from there.

    Thank you.
