Hi, new here… I have hobbies such as painting and gardening but lately gambling is taking control of my life and the debt is increasing. I feel hopeless, lonely and my toxic addiction is breaking me.

The urge is too strong to control most of the time

    Hi @AquariusLife and welcome.

It sounds like the hobbies you already have are good but they don't get you out of the house.

I find with my addiction that I more so just want to be out of the house.

Is there something else you're interested in? Like group bowling, tennis, gym, beach etc?

hiya @AquariusLife good on you for jumping into the forums and sharing a bit about what's been going on for you. It sounds like gambling has taken a pretty big hold of your life. As you say, it is a toxic thing, but with support and the right strategies in place you will be able to move past it and start living life for yourself again!

As @smokey86 said, having hobbies that keep you stimulated and get you out and about can often help, especially so you don't feel like you're in a rut!

I'm also wondering what strategies you have in place for managing urges when they hit? I know they feel so all encompassing in the moment, but it's important to remind yourself that they do pass, and the more times you get through them without actin on them the less power they begin to hold over you.

    Hi all,

New member here... 15 years of gambling with a few breaks in between.

Loss the trust of my partner and that has potentially ended things. I was finally able to tell her about my addiction which I found incredibly hard but also lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. She has been amazing in support. I am ready to end this once and for all.

I just took up surfing which I always wanted to do. It's amazing.

Good luck mate. Surfing!! That's awesome. Will be a great help if you have another passion to distract you.
Hope it becomes a lifelong hobby and the gambling becomes a distant memory.
    All the best!

    Hi @aurelius85,
Welcome to the forums and thank you for sharing.
Telling your loved one about this is a very difficult thing to do. But like you said, it does also lift some weight off you and now with your partner's support, you can focus on your journey towards recovery. Keep us updated about your progress.
