TIME TO CHECK IN: How is everyone coping with Restrictions?

    Fri May 08, 2020 11:01 am

    Hello all, Calvin here!

With everything going on in the world right now, it’s been a pretty challenging time for many people to say the least. This is a unique experience in which everyone is sharing together and most would describe it as a major disruption to their ‘normal’ way of living. Our heads are filled with new information each day which understandably can feel pretty overwhelming.
Although it may not be easy there’s always some room to identify positives where there are negatives. Have you spotted even the smallest positive change since lockdown rules? Have you discovered any new interests or hobbies that you’re thinking of trying out? What’s your idea of self-care for you as an individual?

As you all know, restrictions have affected access to gambling venues. Some people may struggle with this as they may have used gambling as a coping mechanism of some sort or have turned to online forms of gambling, whereas others may classify this restriction as a ‘blessing in disguise’.

So let’s take an opportunity to share with each other what your experience has been during lockdown in relation to gambling. Has this been a kick-start for you to tackle the gambling habit or has it created a spike in your gambling? Has it brought up anything for you in particular that you are struggling with? Have you noticed any dramatic differences i.e. your overall mood, increase in finances, improvement with relationships?
When you think about the current circumstances and you notice the things above, what are your thoughts as we head towards restrictions lifting? What are you most looking forward to? What safety plan do you think would be most helpful to prevent you from going on a gambling binge?

Feel free to share your experiences! You don't have to answer all of them, just the ones meaningful to you. If you wish not to answer these direct questions, you are more than welcome to share your general thoughts/feelings about this topic in relation to gambling.
Looking forward to seeing your contributions :D

It is an interesting time for sure and although I rejoice in the fact that they are closed,I too wonder how people are coping with the forced closure.
It's very hard to stop gambling when YOU want to do it,so it must be really tough when the choice isn't yours.
I sincerely hope that if you have stopped during this time that you use the time to reflect on what is important.
    Remain strong and enjoy life

Thanks Pamela, started 100 day challenge just before covid, day 61, I have mixed feelings, made it a little easier I feel, would have liked to do a 100 with the temptation there, maybe not, is great to be 61 days free, longest I have gone for 40 years. :)

Well done Kevin..be proud of your achievement and don't give in to temptation when gaming rooms open again.
Life really does get better without gambling ,and each day gets easier..it is tough at the moment to find an alternative form of entertainment but every new day is a milestone.
Be proud of what you are doing and continue the 100 day challenge..

Such a good time for gamblers to try get past this. Well it probably doesn't help too much if you are into online gambling.

I've struggled on and off 20 years with an at times debilitating addiction. I lost my soul to this addiction, especially these last 4 years.

I am a hard core pokie player a 17 hour stint one of my last sessions then back again the following day just before lock down, venue hoping. I loose all control with those things. Something just takes over my body, but miraculously I have never ventured into online pokies, don't ask me how, just have never been interested, so thank ***** for that as it appears a lot of people play pokies online or have turned to it since lockdown.

So I guess I should consider myself lucky. I am really hoping this has kick started my new life. I don't want to go back. This addiction has ruined my life.

I truly pray that others have been able to do so. Such a good time to refocus, head down and save and hope that the gambling bug has deteriorated. I had already managed to save a good amount of money ( that someone else looks after for me) but now my savings are even healthier from covid19.

    Wishing everyone all the best.

    Hello everyone!

I understand the forums have been more quiet than usual.
Maybe it'll be helpful to revisit this topic and give you a chance to share your thoughts/feelings and experiences with other members.
