The Shame, Guilt and Regret

I haven’t gambled today which is a plus. I went through my bank account and saw I lost $50k last month. I had no idea how bad I was, the shame and the fact I’ve lost some money that isn’t mine is killing me I feel like have reflux and permanent chest pain.

I feel so I’ll, I tried to close my betting account and self exclude myself.

One of the questions on the self exclusion form is that you won’t sue them. I feel so betrayed I never even opened this account a betting manager from the company opened it for me on my behalf, surely this isn’t even legal, I never even agreed to the terms and conditions, they gave me lot and lots of bonuses, deposit matches etc.

Who is the regulator of these bookies? They should not be allowed to open the account on your behalf. I gamble away $200k in 4 months, what the actual *****. I have now way of paying this back.

I look at my kids and can not believe what I have done to their futures.

Does anyone on here go to group GA meetings, I’ve never been but think the god aspect might be too much. Is there any gambling councillors in Brisbane who specialise in gambling who others have liked dealing with?

You can change the "God" aspect to "higher power" ... "reason" or some philosophical word you choose . It just means that "something" is motivating you that you don't know, weird... I know but??

maybe you could even give "control" spiritually to your children... let your children be your "higher-power"...??

All the best on your journey

They seem like they are American only. I didnt mean to offend about the god part. From what I read in their site it seem very spiritual. Religious groups are always there to help those in need.

You did not offend on the god part... many people would feel the same. The thing is you won't know till you try. People go to meetings and listen to others stories... its a matter of "taking what you need... and leave the rest" ...if that makes sense.

All the best & stay strong.

Hey, you sound like you are ready to stop. And sound quite certainly rock bottom.
What do you mean you gambled money that wasn't yours?
I haven't lost that much money, but in comparison to what I have and do earn I've lost an exhorberant amount. Makes me sick!! I too feel like I've ruined my daughters future.

Sounds like you are interested in the meetings except for the "god" part.
I've been to probably 6 different locations and the only " god" mention was in the 1st line of the serenity prayer at the end of the meeting. Apart from that there's no talk at all about god, its definitely not like a prayer group if that's what you are worried about.

And yes tbh the serenity prayer should really just say "Grant me the etc to ourselves. We should be self talking and telling ourselves to do this and that if you get what I mean. It's only ourselves that can control ourselves I believe.

Anyway you should definitely give the meetings a go. You can do it, but you have to dig deep.
