Thanks everyone for the kind words. I'm so happy ive stumbled across this forum as its full of people who understand.

I still havent had a bet since the weekend and i can notice the change in my happiness already. I feel so much more positive. I do feel less confident however about never betting again. Im starting to get that 'im cured' feeling which always seems to happen eventually. I am fighting it hard at the moment though.

I have a couple of up coming problems i can forsee and would like peoples opinions on however. This saturday is golden slipper day.....one of the best horse races of the year. I have a bet on already which i put on 3 weeks ago. Im ok with this but i kinda dont want it to win incase i want to reinvest the winnings. I have had a look at all the horse fields this weekend too which i know is a no no but as i said in my original post this is where i find it differs from pokies......even though i love playing the pokies i wont be wondering what geisha or cleopatra is doing saturday arvo but i will be very interested in who is winning at the track because its still a sport which i have great interest in. Anyway i will battle on and see what happens.

The second thing is my holiday is to the usa....and we do go to vegas for 4 nights. Now im going with my children and family so its not like i will have time to sit at the casino all day however clearly its not ideal timing. We have a plan that the 3 fellas were going to go to the casino one night with $500 each to play with. Im actually personally ok with this however i will be about a month with no gambling once i get there and its a shame to know that it will be broken. I think im going to 'not include' that night in my non gambling streak.....whilst thats a blatant lie i think it wont hurt to play that little trick on my brain as it seems to trick me enough. I wont have access to more money.....my wife knows about the night and the amount so like i said i feel pretty comfortable with it however i was just after people thoughts/opinions on it all.

Thanks again for all the supportive messages they really do help

Hi Jonno and welcome!

I agree that there are some slight differences with horses from what others tell me, things like 'the strategy', and the social/community component that people can feel which is similar to that of sports clubs etc. I appreciate these complexities, but think its great that you have already seen a shift, from the thousand plus a night, to $350 the other night, to having a day off! These are important changes, and highlight a person that CAN make the change. On a side note, remember that this journey is about changing, and that it is unrealistic to expect that everyone will just stop straight away. lapse and relapse are common, like with any other addictive behaviour. I have a suggestion, I you have a lapse - I encourage to you ask yourself -
Where was I
Who was I with
Where was the venue
What was I thinking (thoughts)
What was I feeling (emotion - sad, angry, anxious, stressed)

If you can pick this up, this is a good way to be able to view what the triggers are, and work on how to avoid them!

Cheers, and good luck!

Got through another day without a bet which is great. Im going overseas on holidays in 2 weeks. Im so determined to get through those 2 weeks because if i do i will be gone for 1 month which means i wont have had a bet for 6 weeks! I have been to that stage before and i know how much happier and healthy i will feel. I just dont know why i eventually slip back into these habits. Anyway today once more im a little happier again ☺

Yes, even if later you slip up a bit - you don't need to go overboard because you know how to make a decision now. Once you've made it , you can remember your decision and just go on from there without any recrimination to yourself.
We all have our weaknesses. The most important thing is not to allow it to take over our lives again
Be proud of yourself! for every bit of effort your make. Remember that everyone has their sins some are out for all to see and some are hidden. No one person is any better than the next. Jesus is prepared to forgive over and over because he knows the way we are made and how much we need Him.
God Bless

That's right, get back on that bike and ride.......

Don't for a moment think we have all started and it's been a smooth ride, You soon get sick of the roller coaster ride and make the decision that enough is enough. you can do this, we are with you on your journey. No money = no gambling . Protect yourself and your money. You have a debt , most of us do and they are not small either. Focus on not getting into any further debt and you can do this....

Great to hear you had a wonderful day with your daughter, hope you enjoy many more together.

Take care
