Re: New here? Change makers introduce yourself here!
Hi Guys,
I’m 42 & been gambling since I was about 16. During this time I’ve lost countless amounts of money, stolen from my employer’s, stolen from my family & almost gone to jail because of my actions which all come back to gambling. I’m not sure why it has taken so long but I’m finally ready to get this nasty disease out of my head. I have a young family & amazing wife, she could have & probably should have left me years ago so she could of had a better life but she has stuck by me. It certainly hasn’t been easy & I’ve just got in trouble again by stealing $7000 from my employer which I gambled away. I’ve paid the money back & go to court next week. As I said, Something has finally clicked in my head that I can’t go on like this. If any of you know the best way to beat this terrible disease that is called gambling addiction I would love to know, I’m finally ready

Hi @Melpaul8379 welcome to this forum.
I can hear it has been difficult for you to have a problem with gambling.
It is good that is has reached a point where you realised you need to take an action to solve the problem.
Talking to a gambling specialised counsellor may be helpful for you to start with? You can dig into what underlies your gambling and discuss about strategies to stay away from gambling. Call gambling helpline on 1800 858 858.
I hope you can get some tips and advice from other members here and feel understood and supported as well.

Re: New here? Change makers introduce yourself here!
Hi there I'm JJ. 35. Been gambling since 18. I know it's a massive problem, I've lost close $700,000 now since I was 18. Seen counsellors, GA, rehabs, I've literally self excluded from every single online bookie, but continue to find another one. I tried "investing" in the share market before covid. Lost $400,000 in 2 years. I still can't stop. I know I use it as an escape as mentally I live in a constant state of anxiety and it's a source of excitement without needing to be out in the world or socialise. I'm somehow married and have a daughter on the way and I'm still gambling. Only reason I'm posting is because I lost everything again today. Literally betting on everything. I'm so done

Hey,
I’ve found myself gambling often and getting carried away, repeatedly going back to the ATM. It’s starting to strain my relationship and I’ve been thinking of getting help for a while now. I am ready to make a positive change!

heya @bun2912 welcome! Good on you for recognising there's a need for change, it can be difficult to acknowledge what's going on and even harder opening up, but you're showing a lot of strength by doing both.
