    Hello, I guess where do I start? I’m 41 father of 4.
I’ve been gambling since the day I turned 18 on and off. I’ve tried counselling in the past to help with my addiction but honestly haven’t found it very helpful. In the last month alone I’ve lost over 100k yes 100k a lot of money, I find gambling a release from the day to day stresses of life but than find I end up causing more stress by the money I’ve lost, the worst part is the lies that I need to come up with to my wife telling her that I’m not gambling when I am, that all came to ahead yesterday when she somehow found the online casino I was using amd logged into my account and seen the money I lost, pretty much told me to pack my bags and leave and I can’t blame her, I’ve convinced her that I will stop so I guess I’m really going to try and bite the bullet and finally stop gambling, Im going to give hypnotherapy a try and see if that works, as bad it sounds I enjoy gambling well atleast I tell myself that, the high of winning is one of the best feelings in the world but the problem with that is that you always chase more and more and than find yourself always chasing the big win but most of the time your lucky to just win your money back on a rare occasion. I really think gambling addiction is one of the toughest addictions to break and for a non gambler do understand that is very difficult, if I don’t stop gambling I know I will lose her and my family, my gambling has cost me a lot over the years financially, friendships, family, businesses so something really needs to give. I’m really going to give it my all to stop even though I don’t want to I know I have to.

    Hi @Degener8,

First of all, congratulations for reaching out on here. It takes courage to put yourself out there, so well done!

Second of all, I just want to say I'm really sorry to hear what you're going through. It's never too late to make a change and it's also not impossible no matter how many years or how much you've been gambling. You already have a fantastic motivation, which is your family. And you're spot on, it's very hard for non-gamblers to understand why the high of winning becomes an addiction. It's pretty normal people use gambling to steam off the daily stress of life.

In terms of the counselling, it really depends as well on "the click" you have with the counsellor. You reckon you could give it a shot with a different person? You might be surprised.
Hypnotherapy sounds like a very interesting option. If people can quit smoking with it, don't see any reason why this should be any different. Let us know how that goes, might be useful for others to know if it works.

I'm going to tag a couple of members that might have some words of advice or encouragement: @Damaged_Armour, @Hollymonster, @Anita44, @pamela, @JinxyWolf, @Kevcollingwood, @Paris196563*, @FamilyFirst

I would also suggest you go through some of the Success Stories on here for a bit of inspiration/motivation. Might also suggest to have a look at the 100 Day Challenge and consider if you think giving it a go might help you as a starting point too.

    Please let us know how you go, everyone's here to support each other. :);

    Hi mate
Getting on top of the habit is only half the battle. Letting yourself think you've conquered it is like turning your back on a lion. It's a constant struggle, but does get easier as time goes on, just don't ever fool yourself into believing you can have a little punt of any sort and stay on top of it.
Like you I'm in my 40s and started when as soon as I was legal. I don't have experience with online casinos, buy Iv read on this forum there's software you can download that dosnt allow your devices to use their gambling sites along with some other measures.

    Best of luck

    Hi Degener8

I guess you must be gamble big, that why you have to make up story to tell lie, you have 4 wonderful children and your wife, you have to decide either stop gamble or you will loose your family in the future if you keep going on like this.
I'm just play pokies at the venue, never interested online gamble which quit lucky in the way.
But I still wasted alots of money in the pokies machine, I get to the stage that I have to decide would I pick pokies over my family or I will stop before everything too late.
That why I determine to stop gamble and I make the right decision in my life.
No point to wait until everything too late, Sorry it's not gonna make up all the money that you lost and for your family to trusted you again.
Take each day at the time, the less money on your hand the better it is, cos even you get the urge to gamble, but if you don't have the excess of your money which mean you can't gamble anyway.
I have not gamble for almost 3 month now, I am very happy my new me now.
I start give back to my family more than ever, cos they mean the world to me.
Give yourself a chance to make it right.
    Life it's good without gamble

    Hi @Degener8

You have come to the right place, I like most, have tried everything, then I came here and the 100 day challenge, grab yourself a calendar, put a big cross through the gamble free days.

One day at a time, that’s all, struggle through, then get up and do it again, don’t let it overwhelm you, that’s the secret.

Before you know it, you are turning the page, that’s when you look at all the crosses with pride, I did that.

    All the best.
