I’ve been reading everyone’s posts and feeling really motivated. I so identify with the feelings of shame afterwards. It’s not even the money (although that’s bad) it’s feeling like you’re flawed. I know my triggers are boredom & that voice in my head that says ‘just one won’t hurt’ or ‘you can win some money’. I think it all goes back to a weird relationship with money my whole life.
I’m going to post every day to make myself accountable.

Day 3 - made it through the weekend. Zero activity is so much easier than thinking I can limit it.

Hey Mickey, day 3....well done!!! And you are doing it the right way too., only one day at a time. You're mind will play small tricks on you goading you to bet just once.....acknowledge the thought and ride it out....do something else, phone someone, go for a walk...anything to distract and that thought will fade. You may feel in these early days that thoughts and urges to gamble are quite strong and you may experience them throughout the day.

Hi there @Mickey40
Welcome to the forums!! :)
So glad that you have made the choice to reach out for help! As @AGHS said 'one step at a time'.
Try to think of other things can help with your boredom that doesn't involve gambling.
As you move along through your journey you will find it gets easier with time. Put strategies in place for yourself for when you feel tempted to gamble and know we are here to support you throughout,

Re: Day 2 of 100
Thanks Calvin. Yesterday was a really stressful day (my other trigger). I’m finding that feeling accountable to this forum is helping so today is day 5. I have quite a busy next weekend planned so that’s good. My challenge will be a bit of over confidence as I go. I’m going to reflect on the COVID break where after everything reopened I went in and thought I was ok. I need to remember that I’ve been changed and will always be an addict - which is a hard thing to accept. Thanks again.

1 week anniversary! Last night was really tough as I got paid. Money all tucked away now - nice to think I can reduce the credit card. Another weekend coming up for some serious urge surfing!

Well done, be proud of yourself for having the strength to say no to losing money, being miserable, fed up, and all the rest that goes with gambling harm.........you are your master, you decide what YOU will or will not do, stay in charge.........keep going, the road will only get easier.
