Hi all - basically, id call this attempt a fail.

I think my 100 days would be up for this attempt if i didn't trip up this last attempt, but i did. I'm proud of my start, but know i'm nowhere near where i want to be.

So, lets take two on this. 3 months (~100 days) - no gambling.

    Will post a weekly update.

Reasons: Money, money, to save money (amongst other reasons).

I think last time i honestly only would've done about ~1 month consecutively gamble free with a few weeks here and there following that gamble free. As we all know it only takes one session to do some damage, so yeh this time its going to be a cold turkey, consecutive, 100 day free of gambling endeavour.

    Hey all, Day 9!

    (delayed) weekly update:

    - Havn't gambled
    - Have a bad urge to at the minute, a lot of betting talks with the cricket/nba recently
    - As i was about to re-download sportsbet it reminded me that i restarted this, which has given me enough of a boost to continue on without it
    - interesting that last attempt on day 9 i was really tempted as well.

    Anywho almost 10% done.

    Hi @Mamamia ,

Well done on 9 days gamble-free!

It sounds like those urges are starting to creep back in, and that you may be feel a bit more tempted.

If you've been able to redownload the apps, could it be helpful to self-exclude (if you already haven't), and download gambling blocking software on your devices. Some that I've heard of other people using are GamBan, GamBlock, and BetFilter.

It might be helpful to reflect on why you started this journey - what were the impacts of your gambling? And, if you were successful in stopping gambling, what will you life be like in a year from now?

Looking forward to hearing more updates,

    Thanks Helpful Bee!

Yeh i excluded my accounts temporarily and i'm not too sure when they open again (i think end of the month), ill have to make sure to extend that to three months if i am feeling weak.

Im going to a pub tonight and can defs feel urges there, however i know i wont be gambling i've accepted that. This time around rather than concentrating on my temptations and overanalysing them, i'm quashing them as quickly as they arrive by flexing my discipline muscle and pushing it to the back of my mind + moving onto something else to entertain my mind (anything else).

    Day 12 almost done.

    Cheers,

    Hi @Mamamia

How did you go last night at the pub? I'm really hoping things went well.
I like the idea of 'flexing your discipline muscle'. It's a great visual cue... maybe envisioning your discipline as a bodybuilder's bicep!
Another thought around urges is to accept that they come, and they will pass. You have the power to choose whether you act upon them or not. I suppose it's only slightly different from what you wrote, but differs on acceptance rather than fighting.

Anyone else have any thoughts on urge management? @pamela @AGHS @Squeaky

I think the best thing to do when an urge hits is to let it in,acknowledge it,then push it away.
Accept the urge but don't listen or act on it because it will pass
