My son is using afterpay to buy items to sell for cash to gamble, and accessing loans from small loans companies (legal loan sharks). Is there some way to limit that ie like self exclusion from gambling facilities can you get a block on getting credit from places? I don’t know how to help him accessing these sources, and worried where it’s all heading....just one of the many issues I worry about that link to his gambling.

Hi @WorriedMum,
Did you have any success with the numbers @dragon007 (facilitator) mentioned?

It sounds like you're really worried about your son, that must be really hard on you as well.
How are you doing with it all? Are you doing anything to take care of yourself as well?

Thank you both, I am about to phone a few numbers, it was a public holiday here yesterday. My son has also booked an apt with our GP and asking for some help there too. It is a step in the right direction.....I hope!

Hi @WorriedMum

That's great to hear!
Did he manage to get any help from the GP?
If not, we do have free gambling counselling and financial counselling available to help him with his gambling. You can call the 1800 858 858 number to organise a referral.

All the best,

Tim Tam

Yes, the GP had some information and is looking into a mental health plan and some more information for us. My son has an appt booked for a week or so away with a program run through one of the local hospitals that reports reasonable success rates so that’s a start. I have my fingers and everything else crossed that he commits to the process this time.....
