Why can’t they ban online betting!

    Sat Sep 01, 2018 4:02 pm

I am at my absolute end.. I honestly do not know what to do anymore.

Long story short- my partner has a huge history o online gambling. Like $95000 loss in total, has stolen from me, his father and his own business to fund his addiction. Each time I have stood by him. We have started the process and after a huge battle managed to get a life time exclusion from sportsbet. I was silly enough to believe that was the end of it.

Well not at all! Williamhills changed platform and the constant adverts on Telly have made his habit come back. It makes me sick and so mad that they are allowed to advertise so frequently. Also to have paypal linked is disgusting!! So I sit here today after realizing he hasn’t paid rent and he denies he is even gambling again worrying about what the future holds.

    I hate online betting!!

    Hi Concerned Partner...

l am so sorry for your dilemma.. I really am! I do not have an answer for you but I do agree with the advertising... I am seeing more & more on television! I'm not a big fan of sports but have taken an interest because my grandson's other half are mad on sports culture!

l am a pokies addict, and had been gamble free for nearly 9 months and had a minor slip. now its one & half months since...

Some thing odd I'Ve noticed when I'm in YouTube is casino adverts... I don't play online at all ... SO I'm curious as to Why these pop up. .. only connection I can make is that I've watch anti-gamble documentaries . .., , So I really feel for people addicted to online gambling... especially that we depend on our devices nowadays.

These gambling demons are cunning bloody creatures! And the government really needs to pulls its Knickers up and do something about it! But we don't have a great deal to say because the government loves collecting money from them!

If your husband had excluded from gambling apps... p-s. I'm not familiar with the procedure so apologise in advance,.. but if -gambling had been blocked from his devices... and he managed to get back in ... would this call for some form of legal action? There must be some legal responsibility on the side of the "demons" (bookies?) concerned when a person "excludes for a lifetime" ...

Give the gamb helpline a call on 1800 858 858... they are wonderful people and very learnt on these issues... and they can advice you on the best course of action AND it helps to unload too!

I really hope you and your partner are able to fight through this...

Wishing you all the best! stay strong!

(Why the heck are they even called "bookmakers" ??)

    Hello Concernedpartner17,

I'm Calvin, one of the Gamblers Help Online moderators,
Good on you for getting into touch with the forums, it is a good way to receive advice and some support from members with similar experiences.
It is often so difficult for people in your position, because you can often feel helpless on what to do next.
I do agree with you in regards to the overflow of advertisements for gambling organisations. It is a risk factor for those that are stopping gambling or trying to stop their gambling.

Is there a way you can have a discussion with him about you or someone else being able to manage his accounts to restrict him from having access to large amounts of money?

Please call gamblers helpline or get in touch via our webchat if you feel like you need extra support.

    Take care,
