I met my husband 2 years ago, he was my dream come true, responsible, never gambelled, budgeted his money, we were enjoying life together and we had the greatest time, in life I promised my self to never marry a gambeller, we would gambel together but it was a rearity and it was with our play money what we could afford , we would try our luck and you win some and you loose some no sweat. We got married had a beautiful baby boy fast forward 2 years , he came into some money , he would go to the casino blow $10000 that wasn't enough , he would go to the pub , and he would be there for hours, he blew nearly $30000 on gambelling, he bought me jewellery and took me out , paid back a few people, but the majority went on gambelling. I thought he learnt his lesson no he didn't, he took out our retirement savings, it was his to begin with but we were married now and that was for me also, dropped $40000, he was not stopping , he has over drafted our combine account without my consent, and I want to go to the bank to take my name off the card so my credit rating will not be affected, he said we can't the bank won't allow it , I have to double check on that, it gets better , when he is out of cash he borrows off his mates , when that falls through he takes our son's savings , I'm trying to save for his education , when my husband knows I have money in the house , he wipes me out completely and I admit I become the co dependant and I've had it being his door mat, i thought he changed well they don't I gave him my ATM card to only withdrawl $50, no he took it all and left us with nothing, from that point on there was no way I would be giving him my bank card, so what did he do, while I was asleep late at night he stole my bank card and wiped us out again, in the morning I checked my bank balance as i wanted to go shopping and he left me $20 from $500 I cried and screamed at him which is not me , I have a baby to look after and I told him that he better be paying me back the money in the afternoon or else, he knew I was serious, he did come back with the money do you know how he got it gambelling he won the jackpot, I wanted to throw the money back at him but I despatetly needed he counts llhow much money I had, he got me ,he worked out I started to save for our son's education , I have expressed my concerns to no avail, he thinks we are better off gambelling as we have made more, mind you he doesn't contribute to the household I buy everything and pay for all the bills and rent as I was on maternity leave and I received a substantially amount, can I tell you I haven't saved a penny, its not like , I went out and spent it, i had a baby ,to look after which takes all your time no it went to him, well my maternity leave finished today, he is not working at the moment, I am so worried about my family and how gambelling is tearing us apart. I don't want to leave him cause I love him but the trust with money is out the window now, I hide my bank cards now, and I'm still trying to save money and have a secret stash, I'm so concerned about our future I only got married 2 years ago and I married a gambeller, we want to give our son a sibling next year but I'm reluctant due to this mess he had created , he says he has a problem but he makes up excuses, he said he would go to rehab if we all went together that I would be there for support but this could be an excuse also , I love to see his reaction if I tell him I have found one and take it from there. does any one know of such a place that involves support/ family also in the treatment in NSW.?? Or any tips on my situation to help me cope more thanks

HI Vee,

I am so sorry to hear things have gotten so bad. I would suggest you get into contact with one of the concellors on the gambler's help website. They can help you, provide you with options, ways to protect yourself and also help your husband if he is ready to admit he has a problem.

I really do wish you all the best and hope that you can get through this tough time together.

Hi it's me again, sorry for the rant but I had to let it out, as no one knows the full extent of his gambelling Andi have no one to talk too. Thanks

Hi thanks for the feed back, I will take your advice and workout a plan once I speak to the councillor just so I can get some sort of support and thank you I needed to get it off my chest , it's been brewing for a while. I feel like he is getting worse, he hasn't fully checked out yet but I'm scared if I don't do something he will, he does help me with the baby and helps with the cleaning of the house but his priorities are all wrong. I have also changed and I'm tired of being a broken record, a nagging wife, I am so not like that.

Hi Vee,

Don't be too hard on yourself Vee .

You are NOT a nagging wife... You are worried about your family... and makes you a very caring wife. It is great that you have reached out for help.

I hope you both get the support you need and are able to sort this out!

Wishing you all the best for the future.
