    hi Bri

I am married to a lady here in NSW for 5 years now,

Also a permanent resident of Australia.

The immigration process took 4 years.

Also her family live here, and i don't expect her to move away from them

I have had some very messed up things happen in the last 10 years.

More things i can't talk about. Nothing illegal or anything like that.

Never been in trouble with the law or anyone.

But i have created a real mess for myself over the last few years.

No one to blame but myself.

Moving back to America would not fix my problems.

But im not really wanting to be a sad sack.

I take one day at a time.

    thanks for asking

Wow Doug...your response really took my attention. I like the honesty and the way you can openly accept responsibility...

Hey Doug - right, well moving back doesn't seem like an option right now (though it's good to remind ourselves from time to time that we always have choices, even when it seems like we don't). Perhaps there are some things you could do to make you feel closer to 'home', while staying with your wife in Australia. What about searching the web for some social groups? I know it's a bit different but when I came back from living overseas and wanted to continue to speak French, I thought of finding a conversation class. There were lots out there - though unfortunately I just don't have the time at the moment to go to one. But I'm thinking there could be something similar for expats from the States? Worth a look maybe. Also, I know it sounds a bit funny, but there are also lots of people on online dating websites who are using it as a medium to connect with people as friends who they otherwise mightn't know Bri

None of those options really have helped me much. The only thing that has helped me to any significant degree was LSD. I stopped gambling for 6-months after taking it once. Reason being with the trip you get the experience of ego loss and it brings your problems to the surface allowing you to deal with them in a non critical way. Obviously this solution is not for everyone just telling you what worked for me.

Hey Popeye, thanks for the concern but there is zero chance I would start habitually taking psychedelics. These drugs are potent and should be respected for what they are. A tool to explore your subconscious mind. I don't think any other type of therapy comes close to forcing you to deal with your issues like a psychedelic trip does. But it was many years ago I had the trip, and it's not the easiest thing to obtain. I may have to go magic mushroom hunting this season but will have to clue myself up on shrooms before doing so. What I am saying is nothing new. LSD was being used by therapists as early as the 1950s.
