Diary to recovery

It's been 6 days since my last bet and feeling good. I find that I am enjoying things more now because I am just keeping busy so I don't think about gambling.

Played some Sudoku to Day on my iPad which was awesome as It gives the same sense of escape and challenge that the pokies were giving me. I played for about 40 mins just on the same game (it was a difficult one) but not finished yet. I am going to get a book from the library about sudoku so I can get some techniques to use.

Feeling good today.

Ready to chill out for rest of night.

It is great to hear that you have substituted your gambling for a pleasurable activity that does not involve money.
Writing a list of what you are grateful for is also useful as it can help keep you grounded and can also encourage others on the forums to involve themselves in their own gratitude list.
If you ever need further support, do not hesitate to call gamblers helpline on 1800 858 858 where they can provide you with gambling counselling over the phone and provide a referral to a face to face gambling counsellor.

Yes It is nice to do this that don't cost money. I think the best place in the community is the public library as you can get pretty much an source of entertainment for free. Bonus!!

The helpine is great. I called it the other day as I was feeling down after gambling and needed to support. I think that I will ring if I get urges to give me a boost.

I've been thinking a lot lately about why I gamble. why do it? do I enjoy it? Would I want to do it for the rest of my life? NOOO i do not!!
I have been through enough pain and suffering over the past 7 years to know that gambling is something that I cannot just 'Do normally' like everyone else which I keep saying to myself in an attempt to go back to the pokies.
If I had to guess how much I have lost over 7 years I would say that It would be close to 250k. that just shocks me. I know that to move forward I must accept that I cannot play pokies at all for no reason.
Why would I want to anyway. I am so much happer when I don't gamble. i do more things, have fun and generally love life.
Hardest part is breaking the habit of getting ann urge and then gambling. I must find better ways to manage urges than giving in such as ringing helpline, keeping busy or playing a game. Anything not gambling related is better.

Well done Keeton. Yes. Why do we gamble? I have found my trigger is stress. I think I would gamble because I could then forget about my troubles while I was playing. I am at Day 37 today. I had a pretty crappy morning and gambling thoughts did enter my mind but instead I finished cooking a carrot cake and then took the dog for a walk. The urge did pass and I am pleased I didnt cave in. My bank balance is also thanking me for not caving in, I too dont want to add up how much money I have wasted in the last 8 to 10 years of on and off gambling. I am so sick of the rollercoaster ride, so I am getting off it for good. All the best with your challenge.
