    Why am I so stupid?

    Sat Apr 13, 2019 10:03 pm

Last year I blew over $100k.
I thought I could bet small and did for a while but this weekend alone I blew $60,000 (last minute of a nrl game).
    No one knows my problem.
    Why can’t I stop?
This year has been my worst (although my first huge loss was this weekend). It’s such a waste of time watching races, footy whenever I’m
Not working. I used to do competitive sport but now have a life long injury and that’s when this all started.
I feel so alone and stupid

    Hi @Elite

Welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing your experiences, we look forward to reading more about your journey through to a gambling free life.

Well done on having the courage and strength to reach out for support here at the forum.

It really is about taking it one day at a time, you need to be patient with yourself and not to beat yourself up when you f up, it is part of the process.

Trying to give up gambling is a difficult thing to do, at the start it is about putting up as many barriers as you can to make it as difficult as possible to gamble.

    Some strategies you can try:

    * cancel all betting accounts
TAB AND TAB SPORTS BET (VIC, NSW, AND ACT)
Tabcorp’s site states that information on their Voluntary Self Exclusion Program can be obtained by:
    Phone 1800 882 876 (BetCare)
    Email betcare@tabcorp.com.au
    Internet http://www.tab.com.au/
The BetCare Self Exclusion Application can be mailed to – BetCare, GPO Box 4168 Sydney NSW 2001.

    SPORTSBET
    www.sportsbet.com.au – Reg in NT.

    http://www.sportsbet.com.au/help/custom ... -gambling/

    People can self-exclude themselves from:

    Wagering on the telephone.
    2. The Sportsbet website and mobile sites.
    3. Subject to the consideration and approval of Northern Territory and other wagering regulators, all Australian gambling sites.
An application for self-exclusion can be made by contacting Customer Service. Forms can be downloaded from the site and emailed (E-mail: rsg@sportsbet.com.au) or faxed.

They offer customers the option to set a preferred maximum deposit limit and frequency. Any decrease in the maximum deposit level or frequency takes effect immediately.

    BETFAIR: http://www.betfair.com.au/responsible_gambling/
Registered in Tasmania and therefore under Tasmanian policy – specifically 3rd party exclusion possible. Setting Limits possible and self exclusion available. Self-exclusion can either be set from within the persons ‘Account Profile’ section, or can be set by the Helpdesk upon request. Self-exclusion means that the account will remain closed for a minimum period of 6 months, and will not be reactivated under any circumstances during the exclusion period (unlike a standard account closure request). A written request (after 6 months has elapsed) is required before account re-opening can be considered

    TOM WATERHOUSE
People can choose to set pre-commit limits or self-suspend their accounts for a set period of time through the “my accounts” section on the website. People may also chose to self-exclude themselves from gambling by calling the Client Service Team on 1800 Waterhouse (928 374).
    * let us know which state you live in or what accounts you have and we can provide details on how to self exclude you from them.

    * if you use gambling apps, you can use one of the following Online Gambling Blocking Software:

Gamblock software This is a link to licensed software that blocks access to online gambling; software for Windows, Apple iphones and ipad, android and Samsung devices. http://www.gamblock.com/index.html

Betfilter software This is a link to licensed software that blocks gambling sites and applications; software for Mac, Windows, Android phones and tablets and Apple iphones and ipads.
    https://www.betfilter.com/

Gamban software This is a link to licensed software that blocks access to online gambling; software for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac OS X
    https://gamban.com/

    * you can also call Gambling Helpline on 1800 858 858, it is a 24/7 gambling counselling service that is confidential and anonymous.

Elite, I hope these strategies can start you on your recovery from gambling.

    Take care

You're not stupid, you've just been sucked into the gambling vortex like the rest of us.
