New Blog - 6 ideas for healthy new hobbies

Thu Sep 27, 2018 4:27 pm

Did you know that we produce encouraging blogs each month at Gambling Help Online?

There's been a lot of talk recently in the forums about new hobbies and pass-times, so I thought some of you may like to know about the latest blog:

'6 ideas for healthy new hobbies'
https://www.gamblinghelponline.org.au/b ... ew-hobbies

Some are in the community, some from home, and all cheap!

Would love to hear about if you try any :)

One of the new hobbies I found was Google Maps...

One night I went to London! Satellite views of the world's cities are amazing.

Thanks for the link Britt : l don't often see what on the GHO homepage and go directly from login to the forums,

I am seeking advice.

It is not a reason/excuse for gambling, but most things I see on TV today are (what I consider to be) trash.

I used to enjoy tv and movies when I was younger, and I don't know if I got older/grumpier/stubborn, or entertainment got poorer in quality.

I do, however, find that I really miss breaking up my days to consume some tv. But for very many years, barring the odds news programs or sports game, I don't even bother at all with tv or movies. And even when I try to watch them, I get too distracted by my phone, or other things going around me (not necessarily even gambling but we are just a technology distracted and multi-tasking generation of peoples).

Do I need to persist and try and consume some more telly as at least a replacement for gambling? Or are there others things I can do in my time?

I do love going for walks outside which is when I am my most relaxed and creative. Again, I got to put the phone away, so I don't get distracted by friends or gambling or by other random things.

Perhaps you can try drawing... painting ... visit an art gallery or join art class.

Drawing and painting are time consuming and in a way they help to slow down the mind.

Sometimes trying to retrieve the things we used to like doesn't work and we can end up disappointed so I think trying new things would work better.

Thanks very much for your post, and I understand what you are saying about trying to recreate the magic of old hobbies (and then feeling unhappy about it). I definitely might start a new hobby now. Cheers, Josh

Hi @JAPAZ

Is there anything you used to do before you began gambling? Maybe something you enjoyed but stopped doing because gambling took over?
Some ideas may be;
cooking
playing a sport or going to the gym
catching up with friends/ calling family or friends
participating in a community activity
reading
bike riding

Take care,
