Found out my partner has a serious addiction

Postby Redlocks » Fri Apr 07, 2017 6:39 am

I recently found out that my partner had a 20k debt from casino gambling.
He only told me because he wanted financial help. Not because he wanted me to know otherwise.
I am horrified.

Sorry to hear. It's not pleasant finding out about a love one's hidden gambling problem, especially when they don't believe they have a problem. What he is asking you to do?

Hi Redlocks,

20k debt must be a huge shock. Do you know what you are going to do about it? I think that it can be incredibly complex to bring up a partners gambling. Often times it helps to chat with someone that can help you explore your options. Gambling counselor often work with partners of gambler to assist them in talking with their partners. Calling Gamblers Helpline will be a good first point of contact if you wanted to do that.

On the more practical side of things a financial counselor might help. You can contact the financial counselling hotline on 1800 007 007. They can often help people out of very severe debts.

Have you had the chance to chat to your partner about his gambling yet? How did it go?
